There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Miles Morale s since he became Spider-Man, and a not-insignificant amount of that controversy surrounds his father and his name, Jefferson Davis. While the fact that Miles Morales’ father shared a name with the President of the Confederate States was deeply uncomfortable, that has officially changed.

Jefferson’s son, Miles, has his mother’s last name, which is Morales, instead of his father’s last name, which is Davis. Jefferson Davis shared a name with the President of the Confederate States of America.

Jefferson Davis had his name legally changed to Jefferson Morales in the comics. The Davis name was associated with crime and, as a police officer, he wanted to distance himself from that name – particularly as he was a former employee of the Kingpin working undercover for SHIELD.
