The husband of Tammy Faye married on December 7th in Las Vegas and some thought it a bit shocking. Roe Messner is best known as the second husband of Tammy Faye Bakker. Tammy Faye was the well known and beloved wife of televangelist Jim Bakker – best known as the mastermind behind the PTL Network and the Christian theme park Heritage USA.
Tammy Faye Bakker died July 20, 2007. Today, Tammy Sue lives in Missouri and works on her father’s “Jim Bakker Show,” which is filmed at Morningside, a ministry he runs. Her brother, Jay Bakker, is a pastor at Revolution, a church that meets in a bowling alley and has worldwide reach, according to its website.
During that time, Tammy divorced her first husband, and later married her second, Roe Messner. So who was he? Tammy Faye Bakker knew Roe Messner (both pictured above) well before her much-publicized split from her first husband, Jim Bakker.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye true story tells the tale of controversial televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, but as with any biopic, there are some changes to the historical record. Many of the movie’s most dramatic details, such as Tammy’s permanent makeup done through tattoos or the scandal that brought down the PTL ministry, occurred in real life.
Who is Jim Bakker?
Jim grew up in Muskegon, Lake Michigan. When he was younger, he was described as someone who loved the limelight. He met Tammy while in college in 1960 and married her after their third date. Soon, they dropped out and focused their efforts on becoming traveling evangelists.
In October 1989, Jim was convicted on 24 counts of fraud and conspiracy. Later that year, he was sentenced to 45 years in prison. He said at his sentencing, “I am deeply sorry for the people who have been hurt – the partners and the people who worked at Heritage USA. I have sinned.
