Lucifer ‘s resident demon Mazikeen spent the first half of Season 5 struggling with a seemingly insurmountable problem: She wants a soul, but according to the mythology of the series, only humans and angels are born with one. No demon has ever had one, and before Maze, none has ever wanted one.
Essentially, by doing good for the world and having people she loves in her life, Maze literally grew a soul. Since Maze is the first demon on Lucifer to have ever developed a soul, it remains to be seen if this applies to all demons or if she is an exception to the rule.
Mazikeen was born a demon. She is a daughter of Lillith, and one of the Lillim, the children Lillith gave birth to in order to form an army for Lucifer. She didn’t coddle her children so that they would grow strong, fierce, and independent.

In Season 4 , she worked with Eve, who helped William Kinley to escape captivity, which eventually resulted in summoning of demons. In Season 5, she worked with Michael to get a soul. In the comics, Mazikeen’s original appearance showed the left half of her face to be horribly scarred and mutilated-looking.

Maze’s evolution since she was introduced in the premiere explains what sets her apart from the rest of her kind. Aggressive and violent, she often felt restless on Earth and wanted Lucifer to take her home to Hell, a request he repeatedly denied her due to his different feelings about the place.
A turning point came when Maze fell in love with Eve in Season 4. Eve reciprocated her feelings but left her anyway, adding to the abandonment issues that Maze already had from her mother Lilith, as well as Lucifer leaving for Hell without her and Chloe rejecting her advances.
While this isn’t outright confirmation that Maze now has a soul, it can hardly be interpreted any other way. Although she didn’t know it and neither did the audience, it now appears that as her conscience changed over the years, something else was happening within her all along.
So far, Maze’s soul is unprecedented, but it’s not the show’s first “miracle.”. Several characters, Maze included, have made the comparison to two other unprecedented events: the Devil falling in love , and an angel having a baby with a human.

Why was Mazikeen’s face turned human?
In Lucifer, Mazikeen’s face was turned fully human when she was resuscitated by the Basanos following the destruction of the Lux in a fire. This was because the vessel of the Basanos, Jill Presto, did
not realize that Mazikeen’s face was naturally deformed, and assumed that it was burned in the fire.
After Lucifer left this creation in issue #75 of the original series, as revealed in the new series Mazikeen took over as ruler of Hell, whereupon her lilim brothers nailed her hands to the throne to effectively hold her prisoner.
When Lucifer refused to assist her in restoring her face to its former state, she defected to her family, the Lilim-in-Exile. As their war leader, she led their army against Lucifer’s cosmos, allying herself briefly with the Basanos. However, this was a ruse; after a desperate gamble, she bought Lucifer enough time to destroy the Basanos and regain control of his creation. Even during her defection, she is shown crying alone in her war leader tent, and she is repeatedly seen as a fierce defender of Lucifer and his goals.
With a new whole face, she initially desired Lucifer to remove the magic that was caused by Presto’s wish. After saying that it would take considerable effort and time, she relented and began wearing the half-mask that she had before. She has since worn it intermittently, usually when engaged in battle or on a mission from Lucifer, such as her voyage to the Mansions of Silence.
When Lucifer resigned, Mazikeen left Hell and ended up following her master (even when he tells her to stop following him), becoming part of the staff at the Lux (Latin for light ), an elite Los Angeles bar that Lucifer had opened and at which he played piano.
Issue #72 of Lucifer saw a dramatic change in the character of Mazikeen. Lucifer, while making his preparations to leave Yahweh’s creation forever, Lucifer transfers a portion of his power to Mazikeen. The portion of the power was the power that Yahweh gave to Lucifer in the beginning had now been given to Mazikeen.
