Since leaving Chicago Fire, Monica has been working on a television series called Hightown. She plays the lead role in the new crime drama, which focuses on America’s modern-day opioid crisis in America. The story is told from the perspective of Monica’s character, a National Marine Fisheries officer named Jackie Quinones who discovers a dead body while working in Cape Cod.

Dawson did return to the show for the mid-season finale of season eight. In the episode, we learn Dawson volunteered to return to the city and see Casey as her feelings for him have not gone away. When she heads back to Puerto Rico, she leaves the opportunity for Casey to go with her.
